Influenced by David Lynch, spaghetti westerns, cult and horror films through the decades, Amirpour blends a diverse array of cinematic and stylistic influences into a unique and singular vision in the landscape of Bad City and the tale of The Girl and Arash who find each other against all odds. Noir bleeds through the edges in this film and is hybridized with a few other genres to interesting effect, providing us an example of what is possible when filmmakers think outside of genre boxes and are willing to go beyond what has been done before.
